Barr Hill Tom Cat Reserve Gin is a barrel-aged expression of Barr Hill Gin, distilled with juniper and raw Vermont honey, then matured for three to four months in new American oak casks. Bottled at 86 proof (43% ABV), it typically retails for around $50 per 750 ml.
Brand tasting notes suggest a palate with juniper and ginger layered over caramel, vanilla and honey.
An oaky flavor is present, but not overwhelming. Though it would likely overwhelm some classic gin cocktails, it will do well as a substitute for whiskey in an Old Fashioned or Manhattan.
Beautiful, rich and flavorful. Juniper and honey star—Caledonia Spirits’ Tom Cat Gin is one of the most delicious creations that the Aged Gin explosion have given us.
