The Orkney Gin Company is co-owned by Gary and Andrea Watt, a husband-and-wife team. The Press and Journal reported that two years ago, Martin approached them at a country fair. The brand’s Christmas Old Tom gin, Orkney Akavit and Aatta gin made on-screen appearances on the celebrity chef’s show in December, according to the brand’s Instagram page.
“We’re a small-scale family business at heart, so we’re very proud that someone with James’ profile liked our gin so much,” Gary Watt said according to The Press and Journal.
The Orkney Gin company is based out of Scotland, and the brand is passionate about the tradition, local history and folklore of the region.
According to the brand’s website, the company makes its Johnsmas, Mikkelmas and Rhubarb Old Tom gins in the multi-century-old “bathtub method.” The gins are distilled seven times and botanicals are added in layered stages.
The brand additionally produced what it refers to as Scotland’s first aquavit.
For the brand’s Aatta Gin and Orkney Akavit, The Orkney Gin Company steeps its botanicals before distilling it eight times for smoothness.
The recent press has helped grow the brand from within the beverage industry, and the Watts claim they intend to build a visitor center in Orkney. They claim they intend to enlist the team’s help at Business Gateway, a program meant to help smaller companies.
“It’s fantastic to see their delicious range of spirits get the recognition they deserve,” said Business Gateway Manager Wendy Pickles to the outlet.
