The Family Reserve Old Rum Line was originally produced exclusively for members of the Gosling family and bottled just once annually. Each edition is a blend of rums that are matured in ex-bourbon barrels. This is the 2023 edition made from rums aged for between 16 and 19 years and bottled at 40% Abv. Let's dive in.

  • It isn’t hugely complex. It’s a nice warming, sweet, round the fire winter drink which will work well in colder climbs. Quite what the Bermudan’s do with the rum I’m not so sure.

  • Few rums can manage all the tricks being pulled off right and left in this behemoth. If you can stomach the outlay, it’s definitively one to try.

  • This is still a very good rum, but I think I will be more inclined to mix Dark ‘n Stormies than to serve the Old Rum as a sipper.

  • Indulgent and sweet, this pour is opulent and a touch sweet for me - it’s very good but a touch more tannin would go far. Fans with sweet tendencies, this is all you!

Raided Score is a conversion from an external site's score, to our in house uniform scoring system. Please see the FAQ for more.

  • Nose:

Rich and decadent on the nose, it’s opulent, textured nicely and full of baking spices, maple, caramel, brûlée and a hint of brown butter.

  • Taste:

Palate is moderate, the viscosity is pleasant and natural but a few proof points could add a lot of texture here. Sweet buttercream, caramel, caramelized sugar and toffee.

  • Finish:

Long finish, loaded with caramel, sassafras, honey and cocoa.

  • Overall:

Indulgent and sweet, this pour is opulent and a touch sweet for me - it’s very good but a touch more tannin would go far. Fans with sweet tendencies, this is all you!
