Braud & Quenesson Élevé Sous Bois Signature du Chai is a Rhum Agricole AOC from Martinique, produced at the Distillerie du Simon and bottled by S.A. Usine du Marin. The sugarcane comes from the estate's Habitation Grand-Fonds plantations, and the rum is aged for 12 months in a blend of American and French oak barrels with no added sugar, colorants or flavors. It is bottled at 47% ABV (with a 49% version also available) and sells for around €48–€70, or roughly $50–$75 USD.
The wood has taken the more subtle notes from the distillate without giving back enough interesting ones from the barrel in return. Palate: Even less complex than the nose. Honey, pumpkin and beet are my notes here, which sounds very atypical but I think it is quite fitting.
