Angostura 5 Year Old is a gold rum produced by Trinidad Distillers Limited (TDL) in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. It is a blend of light and heavy molasses-based rums, distilled on a five-column still and aged a minimum of 5 years in first-fill ex-bourbon oak casks. The rum is bottled at 40% ABV and retails for around $26 per 750ml in the U.S.
Firm flavours of butterscotch, vanilla and almond mingle with wood spices and orange peel. There seems to be a light influence of corn, which probably arises from the American Oak barrels used to mature the spirit.
On the palate is definitely lighter. Vanilla, condensed milk, banana, cashews and light tobacco. Mandarins, yellow apples, pears, cacao, cloves, honey and caramel.
