‘Perfect Tipple to Enjoy at 30,000 Feet’: Ricky Gervais Co-Owned Distillery Creates Orange Gin Exclusively for This Airline

Ellers Farm Distillery, a Yorkshire-based spirit producer co-owned by English actor Ricky Gervais, announced on Thursday a partnership with easyJet and sustainable packaging company Sustainaholics. As reported by Retail Times, the collaboration introduces an orange-infused expression of Y-Gin, curated exclusively for passengers of the British airline.

Described as “the perfect tipple to enjoy at 30,000 feet,” the new spirit is crafted using a copper pot still, where bitter and sweet orange peels are vapor-infused to extract essential oils.

Per the report, the product aligns with easyJet’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, with the beverage packaged in Sustainaholics’ award-winning Alumini, a 100% post-consumer recycled aluminum bottle.

Steve Hickey, sales director at Ellers Farm Distillery, expressed enthusiasm for the release, lauding it as a testament to the business’s dedication to environmental responsibility.

“It’s been fantastic to partner with Sustainaholics on this project and to see our first airline listing go live with easyJet,” Hickey shared, according to Retail Times.

“Our new Y-Gin has a fabulous flavour that will delight customers and it’s also great to be noticed for our genuine commitment to sustainability and innovation in the drinks industry. We can’t wait to see Y-Gin Orange take off later this month.”

Following its 5-cl Alumini introduction to easyJet, Ellers Farm Distillery plans to roll out 70-cl formats of Y-Gin Orange soon.

In late 2023, Ricky Gervais made a significant investment in Ellers Farm Distillery, establishing himself as a co-owner of the eco-friendly firm.

“I’d been looking to invest in eco-friendly businesses for a while, and as soon as I found Dutch Barn – I wanted in,” Gervais said, per a Spirits Business report. “I love the planet and I love a drink, so it was the perfect combination. On a serious note, Dutch Barn [vodka] really is a quality product. I love the fact that it’s done differently, and I can’t wait to let everyone know about it.”

“The exciting part for me is that I’ve been promised that I can try to make it a global brand in my own way. Something I can’t help but think they will regret.”
