Craft spirits brand African Originals has recently unveiled The Mara Edition Gin, an homage to the rich heritage, culture and natural surroundings of Kenya’s Northern Mara region.
“We deeply believe in the power of storytelling and the importance of supporting communities in a meaningful way, With The Mara Edition Gin, we aim to establish a tourist stronghold in Kenya, facilitate positive change within the community, and showcase the true spirit of Kenya to the world,” CEO Alex Chappatte shared, according to Capital Business.
Mara Edition Gin spotlights the Maasai Mara community with a blend of indigenous botanicals foraged by artisans from the region. These ingredients include Lippia Javanica herbs and wild basil flowers, along with wild honey off the comb, African thistle and African juniper. The gin’s packaging, also crafted by Maasai artisans, aims to reflect the natural beauty of Northern Mara.
“We are proud to introduce The Mara Edition Gin from Kenya to the world,” Chappatte continued, per Capital Business.
“From the lush landscapes of the Northern Mara to the hands of our dedicated artisans, every aspect of this gin embodies the spirit of Kenya. We invite gin enthusiasts and connoisseurs to join us on this extraordinary journey of taste, culture and community.”
The Maasai Mara community, indigenous to Kenya and Tanzania, is known for its nomadic pastoralist lifestyle, cultural distinctiveness, and deep ties to their lands and cattle. The Maasai Mara region, situated in Narok, Kenya, is a globally renowned wildlife reserve contiguous with Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park. Spanning about 1,510 square kilometers, it hosts the spectacular Great Migration, when millions of wildebeests, zebra and other animals migrate from the Serengeti.
Available online via African Originals’ online store and in duty-free shops, Mara Edition Gin is priced at Sh8,500 ($55.94) per 750-ml bottle.
