Ingredients

  • 2 oz Whiskey (Bourbon or rye are most typical, but you can get creative with a malt, wheat whiskey etc. if you'd like.)
  • ¾ oz Lemon Juice
  • ¾ oz Simple Syrup
  • 1 White Egg (Optional)

Instructions

  1. Add whiskey, lemon juice, simple syrup and egg white (if using) to a shaker and dry shake without ice for about 10 seconds.
  2. Add ice and shake again until well chilled.
  3. Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice or serve up in a coupe.
  4. Garnish with a few drops of Angostura bitters or a lemon wheel and cherry.

Additional Instructions & Suggestions

  • Boston Sour: The Whiskey Sour with egg white — which produces a thick foam atop the drink post-shake — is often referred to as a Boston Sour.
  • Maple variation: Replace simple syrup with maple syrup for a richer sweetness.
  • New York Sour: Float a small amount of red wine on top of the finished drink.
  • Bitters garnish: Add several drops of Angostura bitters on the foam and drag a toothpick through for a simple design.
