  • Nose:

Orange blossom, lemon gummy, marmalade, kudzu flower and lemonade on the nose. It's powdery sweet, fruity and inviting. It reminds me a lot of the perfume "Love Spell" by Victoria's Secret, which is also purple, juicy and floral.

  • Taste:

The palate opens with subtle grape jelly, rose water, grapefruit flesh and white tea. Spicy cinnamon and cassia follow, bringing a mild, pleasant heat. I only wish this alcohol-free spirit had juniper notes and a bit more body to elevate the sipping experience, but what’s here is genuinely enjoyable.

  • Finish:

The finish is short and reminiscent of a mulled wine made with cinnamon sticks, anise and stewed apples.

  • Overall:

Empress 1908 0.0 Indigo pleased me. While it echoes the original gin in concept, the two offer very different drinking experiences. Here, the texture runs thinner and the cinnamon note is much more prominent. It works best chilled or served over ice in a short glass. When mixed with soda water or tonic, the flavor fades, but enjoyed on its own, it offers a floral, fruity and spicy alternative to a spirit.
