Wild Common Añejo is the latest launch out of NOM 1123, better known as Tequila Cascahuin. Lowland agaves are extracted via a combination of tahona and roller mill, double distilled and aged for 12 months in ex-bourbon American white oak. The proof point always seems to jump around just slightly with these Wild Common bottlings, and this one clocks in at 47% ABV.

  • Apple pie, apricots and melon play ball with an ultra-buttery mouthfeel. Plenty more honey and butterscotch from the nose alongside white chocolate, marzipan, allspice and slow-cooked agave.

  • Nose:

A melting pot of everything dark orange and sweet. Honey, Butterfinger candy, pudding, caramel and toasted coconut. Abound with oak and barrel spice, but still quite airy in a perfumed vanilla or cinnamon sort of way.

  • Taste:

Wonderful interplay of barrel notes and classic fall fruit. Apple pie, apricots and melon play ball with an ultra-buttery mouthfeel. Plenty more honey and butterscotch from the nose alongside white chocolate, marzipan, cinnamon and slow-cooked agave.

  • Finish:

Crescendos with allspice, cloves, chocolate shavings and brown sugar. Long, warm finish that keeps on going and going.

  • Overall:

An añejo that fires on all cylinders. Clichés be damned, this really does smell and taste like a warm hug. There's a gentle, toasted sweetness that brings all these different flavors together under the same roof, in a way that should be equally appealing to agave nerds (Cascahuin's usual demographic) and novices alike. If a savvy bartender ever plans to recreate a Butterfinger in cocktail form, this right here will be the secret to success.
