Los Vecinos del Campo Espadín is a joven mezcal produced in the Valles Centrales of Oaxaca, Mexico, by a group of 10 mezcalero families. Made from locally grown espadín agave, the piñas are roasted underground, crushed with a stone molino, fermented in wooden vats and double distilled in copper pot stills. This 90-proof offering is a collaboration between Sazerac and Casa San Matías.

  • Appetizing, lip-smackingly so, with plenty of white pepper spiciness and an admirable bitter/sweet finish. Outstanding.

  • All told, this is a versatile mezcal that is delightful on its own — but which may work even better as a cocktail base.
